The Ferrari Portofino M — or Modificata — made waves when it debuted, but the Roma is another highly celebrated grand tourer in the Prancing Horse stable. While they look very different, a comparison of the Ferrari Roma vs. Portofino M yields surprising similarities, including comparable performance from the same stunning engine. Both also offer similar interior amenities, so the preference for many comes down to style — and whether you prefer a drop-top.

The Portofino M’s specs are very similar to the Roma’s specs, and that’s just fine for anyone who wants to tear up the track:

Portofino M Engine Specs

  • Engine: 3.9L Twin-Turbo V8
  • Horsepower: 612 hp
  • Torque: 561 lb-ft
  • Transmission: Seven-speed dual-clutch automatic
  • Top Speed: 200 mph
  • Acceleration: 0 – 60 mph in 3.45 seconds

Roma Engine Specs

  • Engine: Turbocharged 3.9L V8
  • Horsepower: 612 hp
  • Torque: 561 lb-ft
  • Transmission: Eight-speed dual-clutch automatic
  • Top Speed: 199 mph
  • Acceleration: 0 – 60 mph in 3.4 seconds

The styling represents the biggest gap between the Portofino M and Roma. While the Portofino M draws clear influence from the 812 Superfast, the Roma’s looks are more an homage to the past inspired by the 250 GT and other Ferrari grand tourers of yesteryear. The Portofino M, in other words, is more modern and angular, while the Roma is more about creating an elegant and seamless silhouette. Of course, the most obvious exterior difference is the fact that the Portofino M sports a retractable hardtop, while the Roma is a coupe.

In addition to offering stunning performance, both the Roma and Portofino M are luxurious cars.

  • Get inside the Portofino M and you’ll find an enhanced manettino dial with five drive modes — but you’ll also find that inside of the Roma.
  • The Roma’s interior also offers heated and ventilated front seats — an option that can also be had in the Portofino M.
  • The Roma embraces digitalization to a greater degree, and perhaps the biggest statement to this effect is the capacitive-touch buttons on the steering wheel, which the Portofino M lacks.
  • The Roma sports an 8.4-inch center touchscreen, which offers access to the vehicle’s settings, media, and climate controls. The Portofino M’s 10.4-inch center touchscreen offers similar functionality — it’s just bigger.
