Enzo Ferrari is one of the biggest names in the automotive industry, and his influence on the racing world has been felt for decades. The team at Continental AutoSports Ferrari takes a closer look at this legendary figure in the racing world, as well as Enzo Ferrari’s impact on racing.

Who Was Enzo Ferrari?

Enzo Ferrari began his racing career in 1919. He joined the team at Alfa Romeo, and after he retired from racing in 1931, he managed the brand’s racing division. In 1929, Ferrari assembled his team of racers for Scuderia Ferrari. Scuderia closed in 1937 when Alfa Romeo reclaimed its racing division. Ferrari left Alfa Romeo in 1939 but wasn’t allowed to use the Ferrari name in association with racing or cars for at least four years after parting ways with Alfa Romeo.

Ferrari opened Auto Avio Costruzioni in Modena in hopes of developing his race cars. However, because of World War II, the factory had to move and pivot to producing grinding machines. As the war concluded, Ferrari began to once again produce race cars, and the marque scored its first win in 1947 at the Rome Grand Prix.

Not long after, the brand began producing its first vehicles for road use, becoming the iconic brand that is world-renowned and loved today. Throughout his lifetime, Ferrari vehicles won more than 4,000 races, as well as 13 world championships. Ferrari was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1994.
