Continental Ferrari Tech Talk: Spring Ferrari Maintenance

Winter storage may have a negative effect on your vehicle. Extended time in the garage may result in new leaks developing or flat spotting of tires, so some preparation is required to ensure that your Ferrari continues to operate at its best. It is essential to make the proper preparations for each upcoming season, and Spring Ferrari maintenance is of the utmost importance for drivers who want to preserve their Prancing Horse’s value over the long term.

We know that Ferrari owners from Milwaukee to Indianapolis are gearing up to get back on the road as our midwestern winter starts to thaw, so our master technicians would like to share some tips on how to get your Ferrari ready for Spring!

How To Get Your Ferrari Ready for Spring

Ready for your first drive of the season? The following Spring Ferrari maintenance tips cover everything you need to know:

Inspect Your Tires

Tires have expiration dates! After five years of age, tires begin to get hard, loose grip and can experience dry rot. After winter, you should always have your tires rotated, replenished with the proper air pressure, and inspected for any damage. Make sure to check and set tire pressures before driving. You should also recalibrate the TPMS (Tire Pressure Measurement System) if necessary.

Check Fluid Levels

Before you bring your Ferrari out this Spring, make sure to check your coolant, brake fluid, engine compartment, and oil levels.

  • It is important to check your engine oil level, engine running or not. Consult your owner’s manual for the proper method.
  • Inspect the engine compartment and under car for any possible leaks that may have developed over the winter.

After your car has been stored over the winter, do not rush to get it started. When you start your car for the first time, allow it to fully warm up and for the cooling fans cycle before driving.

Inspect Your Lights

Perform a “Light Check” to verify that the brake lights, head lights, and turn signals are working correctly. This process is a little easier if you have a friend or family member who can help by activating the lights as you walk around the vehicle.

In the event that one or more bulbs need to be replaced, our service center would be happy to assist you.

Perform a Road Test

During the first drive, pay attention to how the car feels on your favorite Chicagoland highways. Check the handling, listen for any unusual noises, and keep an eye on your gauges. You should also check to see that your AC system is working correctly at this time.
