Ferrari 296 GTB Specs

Ferrari 296 GTB in profile

Unveiled in June 2021, the Ferrari 296 GTB is a new plug-in hybrid supercar, and the latest model that speaks to Ferrari’s increasingly electrified future. Most notably, this vehicle is a rarity from the Prancing Horse in that it features a six-cylinder engine — in fact, Maranello has gone so far as to declare that the 296 GTB is the first “real Ferrari with six cylinders.” It may seem strange, but when you take a closer look, it becomes clear that the Ferrari 296 GTB’s specs are impressive.

Ferrari 296 GTB Engine Specifications and Output

  • Engine: 3.0L twin-turbocharged V6
  • Electric Motors: 2 YASA MGU-K dual-rotor single-stator axial flux motors
  • Horsepower: 818 hp
  • Torque: 546 lb-ft
  • Transmission: 8-speed dual-clutch
  • Hybrid Drivetrain: PHEV
  • Battery: 7.45 kWh lithium-ion

The engine alone produces 654 hp and 546 lb-ft of torque, while the electric motors contribute an additional 165 hp and 232 lb-ft of torque, bringing the vehicle’s total output to an impressive 818 hp and 546 lb-ft. Ferrari claims that this impressive hybrid powertrain with its six-cylinder engine will offer the kind of performance enthusiasts expect from larger engines, and a quick look at the vehicle’s acceleration and top speed backs that up.

Ferrari 296 GTB Top Speed and Acceleration

  • Top Speed: 205 mph
  • Ferrari 296 GTB 0-62 MPH Time: 2.9 seconds
  • Ferrari 296 GTB 0-124 MPH Time: 7.3 seconds

Other Innovations of the 296 GTB

In addition to being the first “real” Prancing Horse with a six-cylinder engine and having stunning specs, the 296 GTB is also a rear-wheel-drive hybrid. It’s positioned as a competitor to other mid-engine supercars like the McLaren Artura, Lamborghini Huracan, and Maserati MC20.

Unsurprisingly, it’s got a few tricks up its sleeve, including:

  • eDrive Electric Mode: The 296 GTB can travel for up to 15.5 miles on electric power alone.
  • New Turbocharger Placement: The 296’s turbocharger is housed within the “vee” of the crankcase, which improves thermal management within both the engine and electrical components.
  • Aerodynamic Innovation: Historically, Ferrari has sought to manage drag as the primary goal of its aerodynamic designs. The 296 flips this on its head, featuring an active device that generates downforce instead of managing drag.
