How the Ferrari Portofino is Different From the California T

Ferrari Portofino

The Portofino replaces the California T in the Ferrari lineup. Its renowned Ferrari 3.9 liter V8 twin turbo engine is part of the engine family that was awarded International Engine of the Year in 2016, 2017, and 2018, and the Portofino’s engine is capable of unleashing about 39.4 more horsepower than the California T. Thanks to the adoption of new components and specific calibration of the engine management software, the characteristic Ferrari V8 soundtrack has also been further enhanced and can be fully appreciated, particularly in top-down driving, whether you’re sticking to the streets of Chicago or experiencing the power of your Portofino on the highway to Indianapolis.Changes to this new GT include a new exhaust system, which features a one-piece-cast exhaust header, reducing losses and improving throttle response while offering zero turbo lag. Along with these improvements, the Portofino’s Variable Boost Management System adjusts torque delivery to suit the selected gear. This feature allows the Ferrari Portofino’s specs to offer higher levels of acceleration in all gears, as well as lower fuel consumption compared to the California T.

For the first time in Ferrari’s GT lineup, the new Portofino offers the third-generation electronic rear differential (E-Diff3) integrated with the F1-Trac and EPS (Electric Power Steering) providing more responsive steering without sacrificing stability. The magnetorheological damping system (SCM-E) has been uprated with dual-coil technology which helps reduce roll while simultaneously improving absorption of road surface unevenness. The result is an even more dynamic, responsive, luxurious and superior ride.

Ferrari Portofino Aerodynamics

In addition to its incredible performance, the Portofino utilizes its exterior design to offer the exceptional aerodynamics for which Ferrari is known. The Portofino is an aggressively-styled car with a two-box fastback design sporting a coupe with a retractable hard top convertible. A large radiator grille opening stretches from edge to edge. The front is accented by new full-LED, horizontal-shaped headlights hiding the air intake which exits along the flank of the car, reducing drag. At the rear, the Portofino poses a sporty stance, enhanced by placing the tail lights further apart. This elegant solution conceals the rear volume housing the all-new RHT (retractable hard top) which features a more lightweight design and can be raised or lowered at low speeds.
